Bill Shook

Coach Shook brings a wealth of experience to our Carolina Juniors program as he has coached at all levels including high school, collegiately, and as an apprentice coach with the USA Women's team leading into the Barcelona and Atlanta Olympic Games. He has also been the founder and director of two prominent club programs here on the east coast. For the past 4 years Bill returned to the club that he founded in 1985 to coach his 14th season with the Columbia Volleyball Club in Maryland (which is the oldest club for juniors in the Chesapeake Region). The Biltmore Volleyball Club, here in North Carolina, was the second club he formed in 1995. Some of Bill's accomplishments include: 4 USAV Region Championships taking teams to the National Tournament in Toledo, Albuquerque, Dallas, and most recently, 2018 in Detroit with the Columbia 12&Under Falcons; 49 total scholastic volleyball and tennis championships (collegiate & HS); USA Volleyball Carolina Region Robert L. Lindsay Meritorious Service Award (2002); nine "Coach of the Year" honors; inducted into the 2016 class of the Howard County Community Sports Hall of Fame; Centennial HS Hall of Fame; and became just the fourth male coach to be inducted into the Howard County, Women's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009. Shook was the head coach at NCAA Division-II Mars Hill University from 1994-2003 where he also served as a faculty instructor in the physical education department. Since his time at Mars Hill, Bill has also been the head volleyball coach at Piedmont College, head volleyball and tennis coach at Lindsey Wilson College, and most recently head volleyball coach at Hollins University in Virginia. For 26 years Coach Shook has served as an instructor at NCAA Division-I volleyball camps (College of Charleston, Clemson, ETSU, Furman, Georgetown, Maryland, North Carolina, Penn State/Juniata, Tennessee, UNC-Charlotte, U.S. Naval Academy) and has run his own clinics and private lessons in volleyball, tennis and swimming for 34 years. Prior to his 16 years as a head coach at the collegiate level, Shook was the head coach of the Centennial High School (MD) volleyball and tennis teams, where he claimed four state volleyball championships and three state tennis championships.
