AAU Nationals Wrap-Up

As the 2017-2018 National Program season wraps up, and over half of our club teams return home from Orlando, it’s important to celebrate the growth of our players, coaches, and teams throughout the nine month journey. The countless hours in the countless gyms, the grueling yet rewarding time and energy spent on traveling across the country, and a work ethic like no other club prepared our teams to attend the annual AAU National Championship held mid-Summer in sunny Orlando, Florida. Of the 24 teams we sent to Orlando, eleven teams finished in the Top 50five of which secured Top 20 finishes!

Honorable Mentions

12 Duane held the best tournament record of any team at CJV, with six first place finishes! Coached by Duane Linnens and Lindsay Michels, the team of young athletes displayed a tremendous amount of hard work to achieve such a unique season. 12 Duane finished 21st out of 55 teams in the 12 Club division, competing with the best of the best from all over the country.

13 Paige rounded out their season with eight Top 10 finishes, playing in the top division at each tournament. Coaches Paige Lima and Chassie Brule shaped the athletes in a competitive environment, competing against some of the most prestigious clubs in the nation, before finishing 29th out of 40 teams in 13 Premier.

14 Megan competed in all Open divisions, including AAU Nationals. With six Top 3 finishes throughout the season, coaches Megan Perry and Tre Blake took their athletes to the next level of competition every chance they got. The players on 14 Megan spent their season learning what it took to be an elite athlete at the next level, and will have unfinished business to take care of next year at AAU’s as they finished 25th out of 35 teams in 14 Open.

15 Vanessa finished up their season with six Top 10 finishes as well, traveling up and down the East Coast to fight for one of the best seasons at CJV this year. With a 9-4 record in Orlando, coaches Vanessa Colon and Rebecca Houpe led their team to finish 39th out of 171 teams in the 15 Classic division.

Top 20 Finishes

15 Keri went to Orlando with six Top 10 finishes on their resume too, meaning their spot in the Gold bracket at AAU’s was nothing out of the ordinary for this team! Coaches Keri Kemp and Rachel Eppley led their team to a winning record, finishing up 9th out of 149 teams in the 15 Club division.

15 Rick are also no strangers to the Gold bracket, with six Top 10 finishes, five of which were Top 3. Coached by Rick Kiser and Amanda Adams, 15 Rick started the tournament an impressive 8-0 record, ending up with a 9-3 record that led them to finish up 13th out of 101 teams in the 15 Premier division.

16 Wade competed amongst some of the best athletes in the country all season, participating in Open divisions in the most competitive tournaments across the nation. Coming into the National Championships with six Top 10 finishes, five of which were Top 5, coaches Wade Pearce and Imani Harper were inches away from leading the team a National Championship, starting the tournament with a 10-0 start and finishing 5th out of 104 teams in the 16 Premier division.  Fun fact: six of the ten players are committed, all to Division I colleges.

17 Ed came together this Spring to finish Top 5 in three of their four tournaments, ending their season with an 8-4 record in Orlando.  Coached by Ed McGarr, the team finished 18th out of 84 teams in the 17 Classic division.

17/18 Ralph found a success story much like 16 Wade. The hybrid team entered the tournament with three Top 10 finishes throughout their Spring season. Coached by Ralph Viegelmann and Alli Fleagle, the team entered the Gold bracket at AAU’s with a 9-0 record, finishing up 5th out of 74 teams in the 18 Club division. Fun fact: four of the ten players are committed to play at the collegiate level.

Check out our team page to find out how the rest of our club finished up at AAU Nationals! CJV is tremendously proud of the growth our athletes made throughout their seasons, and we can’t wait to have them back next season! Good luck to our college athletes, school teams, and everyone in between; see you in the Fall!

Not ready to leave CJV? We’ve got plenty of volleyball to be played until next National season! From our competitive Gold Program to College ID Clinics, CJV has the training you’re looking for to take your athlete to the next level.
